A project of the League of Young Voters. Featuring County Supervisor Eyon Biddle who said in a press release issued on the 18th:
“Change is being demanded. Folks are no longer going to fall in line with business as usual and status quo politics and leadership. I challenge everyone to take a closer look at the injustices that many working class people face every day. This is much more important than minor traffic inconveniences.”
We declare a state of Economic Emergency for the 99%
We’re tired of being drowned out by the voices of Wall Street. We’re sick of acting grateful for crumbs from politicians. We won’t tolerate one more cut or corporate giveaway. We’re done sacrificing to make the rich happy while we live in fear.
We demand that our voices be heard. We demand that the richest 1% pay their fair share and that we immediately put that money to work creating good jobs, rebuilding our communities, and strengthening our country. We believe that in a nation as rich as ours, there’s enough for everyone.

Big banking execs are hoping you stay home so they can keep paying themselves record bonuses for destroying the global economy with their leverage and bad loans. Big corporations hope you stay home so they can keep their employees’ wages low and their profits up. Politicians of both parties hope you stay home so they can remain incumbents and enjoy the trappings of power as the country disintegrates. Lobbyists hope you stay home so they can pull the strings and control your government without your involvement. America’s enemies hope you stay home so that America never begins to find the solution to her problems and the slow process of national decline accelerates into a national calamity.

To highlight the very places that can put America back to work, events at crumbling bridges and understaffed schools are encouraged,” MoveOn says on its website. “Other sites in your community that show a failed economy for the 99% are also good places to hold an event.

Declaration of Economic Emergency for the 99%
November 17: National Day of Action
Over 25 million Americans need work but Congress can’t pass a jobs bill.
As joblessness pushes more people into safety-net programs every day, Congress cuts funding.
Three years after big banks and Wall Street ruined our economy, the gap between the richest 1% and the rest of us grows daily.
Despite his campaign promise of 250,000 new jobs, over 45,000+ Wisconsinites are out of work less than a year after Gov. Walker took office.
Defying relentless calls for change from millions of people, Congress, Wall Street, and our governor continue business as usual, enriching themselves at the expense of the rest of us. They’re not just ignoring the 99%. They’re making life much worse.
Enough is enough. Join in a national day of action to declare an economic emergency for the 99%. Across the country, thousands of people will rally on decaying bridges, the symbols of neglected opportunities to put people work immediately. Join in the demand for a country that works for all of us, not just the 1%.
